So, it is inevitable that the quality of the craftsmanship is superb. It comprises three sections, the base body of the vinaigrette, which amazingly, after 220 years still retains its original brown sponge, the domed pierced gilded inner grill that fits tightly on the body and completes the base and the outer domed lid.
Both lid and base are very finely engraved, the lid being bright cut with a foliate swag and the base including monogram initials. It measures 2.2cms high and is just ¼. It weighs just 10 gms before packing. The interior and the whole of the pierced cover are entirely washed in gold which is in excellent condition. The makers mark SP for Samuel Pemberton is clearly set in the gold washed base interior and on the interior of the domed lid lid where also may be found the year letter C for 1810, the Anchor for Birmingham and another mark which is I think a rather rubbed version of the head of George III. A rare and lovely collectors piece! Condition This vinaigrette is in excellent condition with no scratches, chips or repairs. The pierced cover fits tightly but has a small indentation designed to allow removal by using a thumb nail - and some determination. But, it does come out with a little easing!
Postal charges are based on the weight of the vinaigrette, fully packed. I use a larger box in order to ensure protection from theft or loss. I always, as a matter of policy, use a signed for and tracked postal option and insure for the full value and I use good new, tough packing for which I make no charge.
