A Rare George III Hallmarked Sterling Silver 4 Footed Desk Inkstand by Matthew Boulton. The Inkstand is 8 3/4" in length with a width of 6 3/8" and a height to the rim of 1 1/8" and a height of 2 1/2" to the inkwells. The Inkstand has a weight without the Glass Inkwells of 26.0 oz or 736 grams (20.0 oz or 568 grams for the base alone) and a total weight including the Glass Inkwells of 31.7 oz or 900 grams. The Inkstand sits on 4 excellent shaped corner feet with a raised ribbed outer rim and centre bars with removable lidded inkwell holders (4 nuts underneath) with these having fitted glass inserts with the inkwell holders Victorian replacements (see photo's).The Inkstand bears an Excellent Crest to the centre (see photo's).
